What kind of gift would you like?

August 18th, 2010 by Krystal_Perkins

Today my dog Red was in the house sleeping.  We had some milk so I filled his bowl up with it.  He loves milk but he saw me get something else out the fridge.  So instead of running to get his delicious milk he followed me into my office.  What I had was Chips Ahoy with Reese’s Cups pieces.  They are not nutritious at all but I wanted them.  Of course I couldn’t give Red the chocolate but he sat there all pretty waiting for a bite.  All the while his good milk that he loved was sitting in the kitchen getting warm.  He even put his head on the side of my chair begging for some but I kept on telling him to get his milk.

I got to thinking we are the same way with the gifts of God.  God gives us His best gifts that will make us stronger and better as Christians.  We however are distracted by the “cookies” that the world has to offer.  It doesn’t concern us that they are bad for us and send us to our death.  We just want something else, something better.  All the while the gifts that God has set out for us are getting old and lukewarm.  The gifts of God will give you strength to get through your day.  The gifts of world might taste good for a while but it will not make you strong (Heb.11:25).  They will leave you empty and in need of more.  God tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:31 to covet earnestly the best gifts.  Not all gifts are good so you must be careful that your eyes are not leading you astray.  Keep focused on the gifts of God and you will get stronger and stronger.

About In Him I Live

27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Acts 17:27-28
